Unplanned Disney Day

For many, a trip to Walt Disney World is planned out to the minute. Between the new Fast Pass+ system and dining reservations, it is hard not to have a detailed plan.

We have toured this way many times with different combinations of travel companions. However, some of the best times that we have had as a family have been the unplanned, fly-by-the seat of your pants touring plan!

One trip we didn’t make a single dining reservation…shocking, I know! We learned that you can get lucky and have a table service meal in the early afternoon.  You know that time between lunch and dinner.  As we were walking by Liberty Tree Tavern we went in just to check.  And we got right in!  And I must stress here that we did not plan on this happening! We were hungry and gave it a shot!

Back in 2008 on our daughter’s first trip, we ended up with an afternoon with no plan. We had grandparents traveling with us on this trip. We had an early and busy morning being Flag Family at Wilderness Lodge, then to Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, and then to Akershus for a Princess lunch.  Apparently this wore the grand out!  After lunch they opted to head back to the resort to rest.  So there we were, in World Showcase at Epcot without a PLAN!

We let our daughter, who was four at the time, totally set the pace. We very slowly wandered through each of the countries. When we got to France it was time for a little dance party around the fountains. So she stretched her legs, and Mom & Dad enjoyed a Grand Marnier Slush!

Literally stopping to smell the flowers!

We had some of the best character meet and greets!

We slowly made our way back to our resort that afternoon. The grandparents were well rested and we had a nice, relaxing dinner at the resort.

This is by far, one of the best memories of all of our trips to WDW!  And to this day we love taking strolls on World Showcase.

Even if you can’t let go (I know I can’t) and not do so much planning on your next trip, try hitting a park for a day or half of a day without a plan…no fast passes, no dining reservations. See where your imagination takes you!

You may end up making some very special memories and have a blast too!!
